SÉ DE LAMEGO

In the nineteenth century, after the restoration of the diocese of Lamego, began the construction of a larger temple. Its location became effective on the Rossio of Lamego, in the lower zone of the future metropolis, and the construction began in the year 1159. Consecrated in 1175 to St. Mary and St. Sebastian, the likely conclusion of the Cathedral would only happen in 1191 . However, the various ages of history changed significantly its original Romanesque profile. Now is a Gothic cathedral, which maintains the original square tower, but the rest of the architecture reflects the changes made in the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, including a Renaissance cloister.
The main objective of this proposal is to qualify the spaces intervened with the level of equipment, safety and comfort suitable for a building of this importance. The functions are grouped in functions to support cultural visit and support for their pastoral and administrative activities of the Chapter of the Cathedral; in addition physical accessibility to the various floors is improved.
On the ground floor there are new ofices nd a store. On the second floor there is a new meeting room and a new galery were people can learn about the history of the building. Finaly on the exterior a new roof is design for the cloister which has suffered deep degradation due to the rain.
