REHABILITATION

The house has an old private chapel, which probably belonged to the original house, set aside in Ferraz Alley. Incidentally, as with other noble houses of this street, the chapel was in a rearward position and side and not on the main facade. The land where the house, chapel and gardens were located originally ran from Rua das Flores to Victory Street, but is now much smaller space and there is only a very small patio next to the chapel.

As for the program it is known that the building was used as a school and as a hotel. Factor that contributes to the current spatial organization inside. On the ground floor we find shops geared for the Rua das Flores, and warehouses in Ferraz Street, between which said chapel currently works as a warehouse.

The project's objective was to clear the interior space of all the unnecessary compartiment and give each space a clear use. The stores were made bigger in order to have better condittions for business, the chapel was converted in an art galery, giving it back some dignity as acontemplation space, and the rest of the building is still a housing building. The housing units were all redisigned to have better use of the small space available for each one and are tipologies mainly used by tourist or for short term rentels. On the upper levels bigger housing units were designed for the locals and long term rentals.
